Unidentified Horse Tail
Paleozoic Era
Location Unknown

Paleobotany is plagued by a confusion of names. This is due, in part, to investigators who have given different names to the fossils of leaves and to the fossils of stems and trunks when ignorance has prevented them from knowing which belonged to which. Such has been the case for horse tails, Equisetopsida, and their arboreal trunks, Calamities. In this image one sees both, but without evidence of an attachment, it cannot be concluded that the two belong to the same plant.
